This Week in Washington D.C.
This week, the main legislative focus for agriculture is the Senate Agriculture Committee’s markup of a revised Farm Bill scheduled for Thursday. On July 31, Chairman John Boozman released updated draft text that is largely similar to the version unveiled in June. The most notable changes include a one-year delay in SNAP benefit costs for certain states. Additionally, the proposal would allow year-round voluntary sales of E15 and modify how small oil refineries are treated under the Renewable Fuel Standard. Year-round E15 has been a long-standing priority for corn growers and the ethanol industry, as it could expand domestic demand for corn and provide an additional market for producers.
